When people are looking for a specific product or service in their area, many are turning to their devices to search online for the best results. With Google being the top internet search engine, millions of people daily are performing Google searches to find the products, services, and information they need. Of the millions of Google searches performed every single day, will your business be among the top results?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a big determining factor when it comes to whether or not your website is showing up in Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs). Having a website for your business is the first step, but optimizing your website so that it can be found when people are looking for your services online is the best way to maximize its potential to drive traffic to your business. When your potential customers or supporters are searching online, where are you? Will they find you? Do you even have a chance to be found? It’s very unlikely without SEO.

When it comes to the results of a Google search, there are many factors that come together to determine the results. Google refers to it as bids in an auction. For example, when a searcher enters a search for “quality plumber in Lufkin”, Google sends out the search for all potential matches for this search. The best results will be at the top of page one and rank down from there. Most people make a selection from the first few search engine results pages, so if your website is listed on page 5 or 6, chances are people won’t even see it.

By optimizing your website, you can position your online presence to be seen by more searchers! SEO consists of a few factors that come together for organic results including conducting keyword research to find out what keywords people are typing in on Google when performing a search. Knowing this information can help you create high quality content for your website that specifically targets customers in your specific niche. Another factor of SEO includes boosting your page rank (PR). To Google, pages with a higher page rank are considered to be most relevant, and will be displayed in the top results of the SERPs.

A website’s page rank can be increased by having many backlinks (links to content on your website from other websites) from other high PR websites. Many times, this can happen organically when bloggers or other websites find information from your website to be resourceful. One of the most important things to remember about boosting your page rank and SEO is that it take original, relevant, regularly updated content to work. Having a website for your business can increase your exposure and with SEO, you can get even more leads and inquiries through organic searches.
